Explore the Ravenswood Sculpture Garden

For over a century, the Ravenswood Industrial Corridor has been home to one of Chicago’s most vibrant and diverse creative communities. Over that time, makers of all kinds- from metalworkers and brewers to painters and carpenters- have laid down roots in Ravenswood. Historic manufacturing centers that once housed giants of industry have been reimagined, each now home to countless talented artisans. Established in 2021 by the Ravenswood Community Council (RCC), Greater Ravenswood Chamber of Commerce (GRCC), and SSA #31, the Ravenswood Sculpture Garden celebrates this rich history of arts and industry.

Chicago’s newest public art destination debuted with seven sculptures, including four works commissioned for this project. Following the first wave, we installed three more pieces in the spring of 2022. This magical attraction pays homage to Ravenswood’s creative spirit, delights its residents, and draws visitors to local small businesses. All of the sculptures are located along Ravenswood Ave, between Lawrence Ave and Irving Park Rd.

Seeding the Ravenswood Sculpture Garden

Work on the Ravenswood Sculpture Garden project began in 2019, shortly after City Council closed the Ravenswood Corridor TIF district. Unallocated funds from the terminated district were earmarked for several projects, including the new sculpture garden and the creation of several “People Spaces” in Ravenswood. RCC and GRCC contributed additional funds and issued a Request for Proposals for sculptures in early 2020.

Over 60 artists from across the world submitted proposals! A community-led process, that included a public survey and feedback from the Ravenswood Arts Committee, led to the purchase or commission of seven new sculptures. This group would join one existing work and another project already underway, to establish the new Sculpture Garden. In 2022, a collaboration between RCC and Ravenswood Elementary School added a tenth sculpture to our growing collection.
