The Lycée Français de Chicago Center for the Arts is proud to present: Visages Oubliés, Jean-Brice Wallon, Paintings, Monotypes, Drawings.
Honoring the legacy of artist Jean-Brice Wallon, this exhibition serves as the inaugural show for Lycée Chicago’s new Center for the Arts and will be running July 24 through September 23. A beloved presence at the Lycée from the school’s opening in 1995 until his passing in 2006, Jean-Brice was a teacher and a founding director of the school’s art program, artist-in-residence program, and afterschool ateliers. Abstraction was Jean-Brice’s passion and defining artistic language. Trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where he earned his master’s degree in fine arts, he created a personal vocabulary of “signs,” shapes originally derived from looking closely at brushstrokes. He abstracted them into a language of figures that reappear across media. They almost dance through space, creating a kinetic, playful interplay of vibrant color and dynamic figure-ground relationships.
