City of Chicago Business License Fee Updates

As part of the 2026 City of Chicago Budget, business license fees have been adjusted. These adjustments help maintain essential city services while supporting long-term financial stability. 

As of January 1, 2026, the fees are as follows:

  • Limited Business License: $500 for a two-year license
  • Regulated Business License: $1,000 for a two-year license 
  • Hotel license: $1,000 plus $2.20/room for a two-year license 
  • Booting of Motor Vehicles license: $1,000 for a two-year license plus one-time fee of $100 per location
  • Pharmaceutical Representative license: $750 per year
  • Massage Establishment license: $550 for a two-year license
  • Shared Housing Licensing and Registration: 
  • Shared Housing Unit registration: $250 per year
  • Shared Housing Unit Operator license: $500 for a two-year license
  • Application for Commissioner’s Adjustment: $360 per application
  • Commercial vessel license: $600 for any passenger occupancy limit 

As of February 1, 2026, the fees are as follows:

  • Livery: $1,200 for a two-year license
  • Charter/sightseeing vehicle: $1,000
  • Medical carrier vehicle: $600
