Many Ravenswood residents are familiar with DeVry University’s campus at 1900 W Lawrence Ave, but fewer know it’s also home to a unique educational program for Chicago Public Schools students.

The DeVry University Advantage Academy is a partnership between CPS and DeVry that gives students the opportunity to earn both a high school diploma and an associate degree at the same time. Since 2004, the program has helped students get a head start on college while completing their junior and senior years.

Students attend classes at DeVry’s Ravenswood campus, where courses are taught by both CPS teachers and DeVry professors. Participants can graduate with an associate degree in Information Technology & Networking or Business in addition to their CPS diploma.

At DUAA, students can earn a college degree at no cost. The partnership between CPS and DeVry fully covers tuition, books, and technology fees. The program offers a small-school environment with individualized academic support, free ACT tutoring, and regular communication with families throughout the year.

Students interested in applying must be Chicago residents entering their junior year of high school, maintain a 2.5 GPA, have at least 90% attendance, and pass the DeVry University entrance exam.

Over time, the program has earned recognition for both academic achievement and school culture. Recent highlights include a top 8 ranking among CPS high schools (U.S. News & World Report), the Thrive Award for School Climate, and Platinum recognition across all categories of the 2024–2025 College Board AP School Honor Roll.

For families exploring high school options, DUAA is one of Ravenswood’s lesser-known educational resources – and the only one that offers students the chance to graduate with both a diploma and a college degree.
