Ravenswood Little Free Library Activation

Join us on Monday, May 6th at 4pm to kick off Children’s Book Week at our Little Free Library Activation Ceremony and Ribbon Cutting! The fun happens at our People Space at the corner of Wilson and Ravenswood Ave.

Members of the community are invited to drop by and donate a children’s book for any reading level. Attendees will be serenaded by local musician Mr. Nick Davio, who has written a special song for the occasion! We hope this new Little Free Library helps promote literacy and foster a love for reading among young minds in our neighborhood!

How Did We Get Here?

Each year at Ravenswood ArtWalk, kids who attend the festival get to participate in a hands-on building project. Under the guidance of instructors from BitSpace, these young people work together using power tools to create and decorate an original play structure (an “Exquisite Fort”). In 2023, BitSpace also helped participants design and construct a brand new, community-crafted, Little Free Library.

Recently, members of the community took a survey to vote on where the LFL would be installed. The winner was our kids-focused “People Space” on Wilson at Ravenswood Ave!

A Community-Led Effort

This Little Free Library Project was made possible by the creative and talented folks at BitSpace, our local youth maker’s lab. For more information on what they do, check out bitspacechicago.com or visit them at 2541 W Lawrence Ave.

Special thanks to our Activation Day sponsors, Lycée Français de Chicago and Ravenswood Pediatrics. Their generous support enables us to present a special live performance by Mr. Nick Davio.
