Opportunities for Local Artists: February 2021

Ravenswood has long been one of Chicago’s most vibrant and diverse creative communities. At it’s heart, the historic Ravenswood Industrial Corridor is home to artists, artisans, manufacturers, musicians, and wizards of all sorts. The Greater Ravenswood Chamber of Commerce (GRCC), a non-profit organization that serves neighborhood small businesses, is committed to supporting this community by creating and sharing opportunities for local artists.

This month we’ve got details about a City of Chicago grant for arts organizations, a call for art from a Ravenswood-based film production company, and a brief update on the status of GRCC’s recent call for sculptures.

DCASE CityArts Program Grants

Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events

The Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs & Special Events (DCASE) has opened up applications for the 2021 CityArts Program.

Nonprofit arts and culture organizations of all sizes and across all artistic disciplines can apply for general operating grants and project grants focused on rebuilding and recovery across all artistic disciplines. Project grants will support initiatives that have the potential to impact the Chicago arts sector at large.

Grant Information

Learn more about the city arts program on the City of Chicago website. You can also download the city arts info packet here.

The application deadline for the 2021 CityArts Program is March 3, 2021 at 5pm CST.

Call for Art: UnScarred Film Art Fundraiser

UnScarred is a documentary film (currently in production) that will tell the story of survivors that find healing and reclamation through tattoo. The film will feature survivors, all physically scarred by trauma or illness – stories of cancer, paralysis, self-harm, rare medical conditions, abuse. Big Teeth Productions are hosting an art show to raise funds for production and are looking for artists that resonate with their mission and want to join the project by donating artwork.

The deadline to submit is March 16, 2021. There is no required theme (in fact, you don’t need to make something specifically for this event). Artists will receive promotion on the project’s social channels and website, as well as a credit in the film. Prints and original pieces are accepted.

Update: Ravenswood’s Call for Sculptures

Thanks to all the artists who submitted work for consideration to GRCC’s recent call for sculpture proposals! We appreciate your passion and support for this project. We are currently reviewing an overwhelming amount of submissions and soliciting feedback from neighbors on which pieces they want to bring to our neighborhood.

Have questions about a proposal you submitted or our updated timeline? Please contact Project Manager Amy Czarkowski at amy@ravenswoodchicago.org. Thanks for your patience as we move forward with this exciting project.
