Vandana Jain is a Chicago-based artist, whose vibrant paintings of nature are inspired by her travels, which brought her face-to-face with majestic leopards in Namibia to beautiful birds in Botswana. She translates those experiences into vivacious and colorful paintings that invite you to stay in the present and revel in the beauty of Mother Earth. Using a variety of mixed media – including collages, inks, acrylics, and oils – her textured paintings capture the liveliness of animals, birds, and plants out in the wild. She begins her process by selecting textured paper and mediums to use in the collage base that makes her abstract backgrounds distinct. From there, she uses free-flowing, brilliant inks to cover the canvas and paint markers to bring out certain details. She goes on to paint with acrylics to bring the subjects to life, before using oil paints and fine paint brushes to add depth to her paintings. This process creates her paintings’ unique style, contrasting the realism of their animal subjects with ethereal, abstract backgrounds. As a result, her artwork evokes a feeling of liveliness and joy.
