Saturday and Sunday, 11am - 6pm
I am a painter classically trained in oils, but have been using acrylic paint for the past 15 years. I like to work with thin layers of acrylic layered upon one another. I have a particular interest in maintaining vibrant color and creating pattern throughout my work.
Within my work, I like to create a push and pull, not just with the materials, but creating harmony between opposing ideas. I like to mix something sweet against something sour, something delicate against something dangerous, and mixing “high” brow and “low” brow art.
Throughout my work themes of humor, childhood nostalgia, and unrelenting femininity surface. I like to create depth of meaning by using subject matter (gummy candy, rhinestones, bugs, small animals, etc) to allow the viewer to access their own memories in order to create their own bond and understanding of the work.
My profound influences are James Rosenquist, psychedelic posters of the ’60s and ‘70s, Frida Kahlo, Remedios Varo, Wangechi Mutu, Leonora Carrington, and last but not least, Lisa Frank. All these artists and art forms influence me to access the femme experience and childhood memories in order to express the sense of alienation I felt as a child as well as an adult.
