Clark St Construction Update – August 2025

Beginning August 19, the Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) is is making street improvements along Clark Street from Montrose to Winnemac. These changes aim to make the street safer and more comfortable for pedestrians, cyclists, and transit riders while improving access to local businesses.

The project includes improved pedestrian crossings, 20 mph speed limit regulations, and a physically separated bike lane. The City will reserve on-street parking on one side of each block throughout the corridor after construction is complete.

What to Expect During Construction

Construction crews will begin work on August 19, 2025. CDOT officials anticipate that work will last for approximately 3 months. Parking restrictions will be in effect in the impacted areas.

  • In August, construction and parking impacts will be limited to the blocks between Leland and Argyle.
  • In September, construction and parking impacts will expand to the full corridor.

Construction crews will help coordinate curbside activities and will reopen some parking after work hours, where possible. As the project progresses, crews will make parking available as construction activities and staging allow.

  • August: installation of concrete safety elements between Leland and Argyle
  • September: installation of concrete safety elements on full corridor
  • October: asphalt restoration, pavement markings, bike lane curbs, and signage on the full corridor
