Special Service Area #31 – Servicing areas on Clark, Damen, Lawrence, Montrose, Wilson and along the Ravenswood corridor. “Spider” Meka is the creator of Unbeautifying—a philosophy that challenges the stories we tell ourselves about beauty, confidence, and worth. Through portrait photography, she helps create an experience many of us have never felt before: seeing ourselves with appreciation instead of criticism.
Throughout ArtWalk, Meka invites audience volunteers to “sit in the chair” for live portrait demonstrations, photographing each in just a few minutes. As the audience watches images emerge in real time on-screen, they witness something deeper than photography… they witness perception shift. This demo asks: “What if the story you’ve been telling yourself about your photos isn’t true?” If you’ve ever believed you aren’t photogenic, this is for you. Come watch. Or be brave enough to become the next volunteer.
