During Ravenswood ArtWalk, Wayward Arts Gallery + Tattoo will host Artists for Afghans, an exhibition and fundraiser for Refugee One, the Muslim Women’s Support Network, and World Relief Chicago – organizations that support new Afghan families resettling in Chicago.

Madina Olfati, a dear friend of Wayward owner/curator Dominque Allman, immigrated to Chicago a little over three years ago. Both have been distraught over Madina’s family, stranded after Afghanistan’s recent takeover by the Taliban. Rather than simply feeling helpless, they channeled their rage and sadness into local action.

Madina speak about the persecution she experienced from the Taliban as a result of her ex-husband’s work supporting U.S. forces. She’ll also talk about her immigration experience, and what it means for she and her daughter to grow up in a country that values women and protects their rights to education, profession, and freedom of expression. In addition to some amazing art work by both established, emerging, and student artists, there will be authentic, home cooked Afghan food and tea (of course!).
