Volunteerism strengthens communities and brings people together. In Ravenswood, volunteers help feed and clothe the less fortunate, they keep our rivers, parks and bioswales clean, and they help bring incredible events and programming to the neighborhood. We get regular requests for volunteers from a number of amazing local non profit organizations and community groups, and we pride ourselves in connecting them to passionate Ravenswood residents.
For the latest volunteer needs, subscribe to our e-newsletter. Each month we feature several opportunities in our “Volunteer and Donation Opportunities” section. If you’d like to add your name to our Volunteer-specific contact list or would like to reach out about group volunteer opportunities, please email email@example.com with “Volunteer” in the subject line. We never share your information with other organizations, we just pass the information along to you.

Chicago Books for Women In Prison – Ongoing
Chicago Books to Women in Prison is a volunteer collective working to distribute books free of charge to women in prison nationwide. Incarcerated women send them their requests for books directly. CBWP attempts to furnish the requested materials from their stock of donated books, by trading with used book stores, and from donations from their Amazon wish list. They send three books in each package.
There are several ways you can help:
- Volunteer with them! Volunteer training is the last Sunday of every month, at 1pm.
- Drop off your new or used books at their office inside Ravenswood Fellowship Church (4511 N. Hermitage) every Sunday between 2-5.
- Donate brown paper bags or packing tape.
- Buy a book directly off their “special requests” Amazon wishlist under “Chicago Books to Women in Prison.
- Give money, to help cover the cost of postage. It costs about $3.20 to send each package media mail, but it is the organization’s only cost, so a small donation goes a long way.
