Ravenswood’s craft brewing scene is among the most vibrant in the country, and a recent creative shift in its usually traditional dining landscape makes this the perfect time to take a tasting tour of the neighborhood. Normally that wouldn’t be possible in one evening, but Chicagoans will have a rare opportunity to sample an impressive lineup of the community’s finest chefs, brewers, distillers and bakers at the first annual Taste of Ravenswood.

Taking place on Friday, November 13th (7-10 PM, 4011 N Ravenswood Ave) in the Ravenswood Event Center’s stunning Billboard Showroom, Taste of Ravenswood will feature chefs from 2014 Michelin Bib Gourmand recipient Mixteco Grill, celebrated comfort food destination Ampersand WIne Bar, and neighborhood institution Fountainhead. Also on the evening’s menu will be selections from Anna’s Asian Grill & Sushi bar, Biscuit Man, Dolce Casa, River Valley Farmer’s Table and Spoken Cafe.

Among the evening’s many beverage options, Chicago’s first post-prohibition distillery KOVAL will be offering tastings of their internationally awarded roster of organic craft whiskeys, gins and boutique liqueurs. The aforementioned booming microbrew scene  will be well represented, with beers coming from Ravenswood’s “community supported brewing company” Begyle Brewing, recently-expanded local heavyweights Half Acre Beer Company, science of suds enthusiasts Empirical Brewery, exciting up and coming nanobrewery Spiteful, English-style Bowmanville brewery Aquanaut, and craft brew-renaissance trailblazers Metropolitan. Rounding out the beverage menu is the Chicago’s newest craft cidery, Broke Nose Cider.

One of the featured desserts of the evening, while produced in Ravenswood, has its roots in Argentina; local pastry wizard Lucila Giagrande will have a variety of handcrafted alfajores, a popular South American pastry consisting of two soft and crumbly cookies sandwiched with a thick layer of dulce de leche. Joining Lucila in showing off why Ravenswood residents needs great dentists is Montrose Avenue favorite Sweet Sensations, whose owner and chef who cut her teeth working at places like Charlie Trotter’s and Harvest on Huron.

Tickets for the evening are $65 and include unlimited food tastings, twenty 4oz beverage samples, and a commemorative Taste of Ravenswood sampling glass. A limited number of VIP tickets will be available, allowing guests access a VIP Happy Hour with chefs and brewers (6-7PM), unlimited food and drink tastings, a commemorative Taste of Ravenswood sampling glass and swag bag loaded with gifts from event partners.
